'Classrooms in the Clouds'
Giving Nepali children a chance to learn

Nepal is the worlds 48th poorest country and one of the poorest countries in Asia with half the population living below the poverty line.It is also the 15th most illiterate country in the world with literacy rates of 62% for men and 32% for women.

50% of children do not have access to primary school for financial and other reasons like they may also be busy taking care of younger siblings and elderly relatives, or live too far away to attend a school, or there is no school in their village, or they are working…… as 50% of children aged 10 - 14 are out working instead of attending school.

Many people do not realise the heavy burden carried by those people in remote parts of the world who wish to give their children any form of modern education. Facing such immense adversity resulting from education being the recipient of inadequate goverment funding, poor provision of suitably qualified teachers and a system plagued by problems resulting from social inequality based on location, gender, ethnicity not to mention geographical issues it is impossible for the community to provide all the resources needed to educate their children.

What happens to the children then ? - can they ever climb out of poverty?

The rewards are massive in terms of helping the children of a remote and often ignored part of the world to learn to compete on equal terms with everyone else.
